For 1969, just about all of the early cars were coded "IT" like the previous years (1967-1968) with the exception of several "LO" engines (with open chamber heads) that were built for some well connected racing teams that got them just prior to the 1969 calendar year.

The "LO" and "LV" engines typically appeared around the time of the strike and became the only L-88 engines available after approximately July 1969.

I've seen exactly one "MR" coded L-88 car over the last 30 years and I have serious doubts that the engine was original to the car. For what it's worth, it was an early (roughly mid-1969 production) automatic... A convertible from what I remember. I saw this car maybe 15 years ago... Didn't know what to make of it then and still not sure about it today.

Regards,

Stan
