Default Simple valve cover question for 1979

I am looking to paint the valve covers of my 1979 vette. I thought it would be easy to remove them but it is more involved than i thought. On the driver side there is an aluninim shaft running from my brake booster to the back of carb. It is preventing me from getting the back of the valve cover off because of clearance. If i disconnect it from the carb and slide it out of the way am i going to get air in my brakes or
screw the brakes up somehow? Also i took a quick look at the passenger side and there seems to be some of alunimum line that needs to be removed to get valve covers out same question.

Thanks dan

The line that goes to the back of the carb is for the power brakes supplies vac.to the power boster and its ok to to remove so you can get the valve cover off,but if you forget to hook it up you will know real fast because you will hear a loud vac leak and the car probally will not stay running. On the other side im not sure what line it is without a picture hope this helps.

You can pretty much disconnect anything you want from the carb, and it will be just be fine as long as you hook it back up before you start the car up. Except the fuel line, a little bit of fuel will come out if you disconnect it, so have a rag handy. You shouldn't need to disconnect the fuel line to get valve covers off, though. Do a search on this sight for some tips on re-installing them so they don't leak. Good luck! And welcome to the forum. Also, don't worry about Easy Mike's long winded answers, he just doesn't know when to shut up! <---sarcasm!!!!!!

Thank you all - like most things you have to get into it to find out what the car is all about. Got the vacuum line off and a bunch of other emission type devices(you forget about all this emissions stuff that everyone in the 70s was so worried about) painted up the valve covers and intake manifold GM corporate blue and it looks like it did back in1979. I have another question for you guys I am trying to get the driver side window working. Replaced the motor and the window will not rise. It binds immediately. So I took all the internal components out. Cleaned everything; sprayed white lithium grease the window without the motor goes up and down easy - put the motor in and it binds immediately again. I have power. A friend of mine told me he had a friend who had the same problem and was told that something needed to be reve)arsed and it fixed the problem. But he did not know what it was that needed to be rvearsed. I hate to give up and take it in to a shop if I can fix it-- any ideas???

I suggest you find a friend who is mechanical. Door glass can be a problem for a skilled mechanic and I think you are going to have problems.

Sorry but I got a good chuckle from your friends advice. See if there is a good glass shop in your area. Many of them are experienced with door window problems. It could be a very small problem and it seems like you are stumped. "A man has to know his limitations". Good luck

For future reference, I've always been able to remove my valve cover on my 79 without removing the hard vacumn line to the brake booster. You have to angle the valve cover correctly, but it can be done.
