Default flat tire today........

Flat today on the way back from cruising the foot hill roads here in central cal. Thank god for flat fix in a can. .

100 degrees was hot out too. I don't carry the spare, cause I like the way the pipes look. But now......maybe I better think about that mini spare I have in the barn,.....and throw it in the back storage area.
One 20 0z can of fix made 20 psi.......and got me 30 miles back home. Then 3 hrs later I checked it......And it was flat. So don't waste any time when your moving. .
..Hot august nights coming up in reno. I better get ready. .....

I like having a spare tire, I guess I'm just old skool. A can of fix-a-flat is better than nothing, I guess, but I still like having a spare tire.

In the 11 yrs I have owned the car I have never had the spare tire carrier down. I think it is the original tire from what I can see of it. I think it is time to drop it and put a new tire in there.........Don't want to steal the thread. But while we are on the subject what size tire are people using for a spare?

I learned the from my family members who learned the hard way, you need to inspect your spare. My sisters had a flat and when they went to get the spare out, it was flat too. Hadn't been touched in years. I guess air slowly leaked out over time.

The incident inspired me to look at my spare. It was flat too. I think it had less than 15 PSI. Its a lessen to learn but can be avoided. REGULARLY check the pressure and usability of your spare.

Fix a flat does the trick short-term, but was told that the tire is useless after that and needs to be replaced. Something to do with how it seals the flat creates a lopsided mass on the wall and will be out of balance.

Have you ever seen a wheel after using Fix a Flat?

Running down to the local tire place at 7 59 am , to get it fixed, and have all the nails pulled out of the others. I remember when we were kids, we would do a burnout at night in front of our friends, and they would laugh because of all the sparks coming off the tires. .

I keep the spare tires on all my cars. I try to keep them stock looking and keeping the tire and carrier fits that build.

After reading this post though I think I will take the spare tire out of them to check the pressure. Might be something that I will try to do on one of my periodical checks.

This reminded me of when I bought my corvette. I was checking it out, laid down and looked underneath at the condition and also to see if it had a spare. well it did, so I thought. 2 weeks later started cleaning the underneath and lowered down the spare tire basket to clean more. Well it did have a spare tire, just no rim .

I check the spare tire air once a year...set the pressure to about 45psi...the next year when it is checked the tire has lost about 12 to 15 psi....

Last year on the way home from Napa, CA, in the middle of Nowhere, Oregon, we had a flat in my wife's Porsche. The sidewall was shredded and we had no cell coverage. This event convinced me to put the spare back on my '71.

You may consider installing a tire pressure monitoring(TPMS) system, as really not that expensive. C5 & C6 Corvettes have always had these, as use run flats, with no spare. All new cars 08' up, are required to have these now. While seems a bit much doing this, shred a difficult to replace tire, with a rare rim, and wish you had. I carry a Viair 90P compresser and plug kit in my car, even with TPMS.

Another nice modification to make?

Long line up to a air pressure gauge in the dash (maybe replace that silly non working clock)...

In my case, since I'm running a staggered set up, I'll have a 215/70R15 for a spare as the diameter in nearly the same as the 275/40R18's on the rear. I have a flat on the rear I can run the spare without damage to the posi. I have a flat on the front, I can have some really bad handling until the flat is fixed.

I have a flat with the wife along, I have a problem since I don't think I can put the flat behind the seats.

So is it: Strap her on the rear deck, or strap the tire on the rear deck?
