I'm going to start the restoration on my '77. My plan is to remove the engine and tranny within the month and over the next year or so redo the frame, engine, brakes etc. Is there anything I need to do to make sure nothing gets gummed up while it sits? I added Stabil to the fuel but was wondering if best to drain it all instead. How difficult is that? Please let me know what else needs to be addressed.
Thanks for the help.
Drain the fuel and use it in your daily driver. Make sure that you have to open flame near your or items that can cause a spark. Normally you can simply syphon most of the gas out.
Don't lose anything once you take it apart! Keep things very organized. Take photos before taking things apart. Get an assembly manual for your year so that you know how to put everything back together.
If you already have Stabil in your fuel, just run the carb totally dry. That way all those tiny passages won't gum up from crap gas evaporating into shellac.
