Hello gents have a question. My car has the original L48 and came without A/C. All works well and I'm a happy camper. My question has to do with the fact that it's an absolute PITA to check my PS fluid levels. I have to be a contortionist to get the cap out from under the alternator assembly. I have this wonderful open space on the passenger side where my A/C compressor would go..........so........ I recall my early Camaros (1979 and 1981) both had the alternators on the passenger side.
Therefore can I not replace my original alternator bracket with a late model Camaro bracket to relocate the unit? Sure, I'll have to extend my electrical connections to the passenger side, and I'm assuming my local parts store can get me the new alternator belt from a 78-81 Camaro? Does this make sense, or am I missing something???
Using your left hand is easiest to remove the PS cap, wish I could show you,its pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
Wouldn't it be more fun to put a super charger in that open space ?
All Corvettes use the "short water pump." Those year Camaros may use the long water pump. In that case, the brackets won't work. You would need to check on this.

Good catch Todd, I believe 99.9999999% you are correct sir. Gonna have to figure plan B. What do you guys think of this:
I know the year application is wrong, but my GM knowledge about interchanging parts is sadly lacking, so this might have to do....would prefer a "stock" look if possible. I guess I'm looking for a SBC passenger side alternator bracket that fits a short water pump.
No buddy....she's all stock.....I was thinking maybe something from an "F" body like a Monte Carlo or an older Monza. The 305/350 should be the same I would think.
Good call Bob.....just checking it out now. Will have to call in the morning to see what shipping and duty(they ship UPS )will cost. I thought maybe I could find a Monza bracket that would work, but Ebay is all messed up as they link those parts with Camaros and Monte Carlos. Also thought about mid 60's C2 parts for the passenger side off of a 327.....certainly not any cheaper.
