Hood Latch - 79 Vette - Driver Side
Hello,
I typed this up yesterday and thought that I had hit the "submit" button. I could not find any evidence of my posting. So I guess I did something wrong. Anyway, I apologize if this is a duplicate posting.
Sometimes the driver side of my hood comes undone when I am driving. This can happen when I hit a bump; or it can just happen even when driving on level land. The passeger side stays secured.
It is as if the driver side latch just releases.
Before I start to do anything, I just wanted to run this by you all first. Is this a simple matter of me replacing the hood latch?
Also, when I purchased the car 2.5 years ago, the driver's side of the hood, although it did close, was slightly elevated. I am talking just about the left edge of the hood that comes up near the windshield. I do not know if that is an issue. But I just wanted to mention that.
Is it a common problem for the latches to malfunction over time?
Any insight would be helpful. I just want to make sure that I am approaching the problem correctly.

Hey Eddie, I posted yesterday, but no big deal. On our cars, the "latching bar" on the bottom of the hood has several "shims" positioned under them. I also had a high sitting hood until I removed one shim on each side to bring the hood level with the fenders. Try that on your high side, and through trial and error you should get it close to perfect.
As far as the side that isn't staying closed, is it sitting high also? Might just need a shim removed...or perhaps one added to get it to line up. It just might also need an adjustment, as things can shift over time. Either way, once you look at the bars on the hood, you'll see what I mean.
