I broke my key for the gas cap. Can anyone tell me how to get this off. I have the original not locking cap. Thie is for a 1970 LT1.
Thanks in Advance.

Is this a generic parts store cap? If it's the kind that just spins freely when locked, you can usually just push down on it and turn at the same time and it'll come off. Kind of like a childproof medicine bottle.
Thanks for all the advice. I was able to open it with a paperclip and a curved pick device I used for fishing wire. Now to find a vented gas cap.

Congratulations on getting the cap off.
Your going to want a sealed cap on your 70 LT-1, if your trying to keep it correct and original. 69 was the last year for the vented cap.
If you have a sealed cap and want to make it vented drill a small hole on the inside bottom and another on the outside top. I had to do that on my 71 because I had to plug the canister vent untill I can drop the tank and fix it properly. Works great and the cap does not leak even with a full tank.
I took the cap off my 68 thats not being used at this time. The 68 has a vented cap is the correct one to use on my 70 LT-1?
Thanks

No, 1969 was the last year to use the vented caps.
For 1970, the cap is sealed, and the tank vents through a line that runs down the left side of the frame, and into a charcoal canister mounted in the area below the master cylinder.
Thanks a lot, I have 2 C3's and both were bought in the last 4 months. The others I had were always older c1's and c2"s? I will have to buy some books on the c3's and do some studying .
