Default Exhaust

So here is the plan guys

Exhaust, door/ t-top seals, dash/wiring, an start driving my car.

With my wife working and me getting back to work an over time I can easily afford to finish my 79 with no worries. I know I want to go ecklers for my dash and weather striping. Who do you guys think I should go through for exhaust? Or does any exhaust shop get the job done? I already have headers for it. But it needs from the engine back all new. I also want true duals I thought I wanted side pipes for te longest. Though now I have decided that they just aren't what I want on the car in smog crazy so cal. I am not running a smog pump I can weasel around the smog issues with friends. But side pipes just scream look at me I'm illegal. Where do I got for exhaust and who recommends what? Ex. Borla, flow master, who has the best sound who do you guys recommend? I don't want to be deaf after a 20 mile ride but I would like a great sound quality over decibels ya know

I used the Magnaflow for a '73. True duals with an x-pipe. PN 16842. I have long tube headers and my exhaust shop cut the pipes to mate with a collector and the headers. The system sounds great but is not too loud.

Willcox has the best weatherstripping, period.

I got my dash from Ecklers and it is great. It has an ABS core that allows you to bend it slightly during installation. Tougher than original.

Thanks allot that is what I was looking for beautiful sound but not TOO loud just loud enough. Does your system groan at highway speeds? My. Buddy has a 81 that sounds just beautiful around town but a constant groan at 75mph.

Wilcox for the weather stripping. Ok I will take your word on that one thanks again

Jesse,

I can hear it at highway speeds but it is not uncomfortable. It has a nice idle and gets louder when I put my foot into it. Ignore the dates on the pics. I took them in April of this year.

A video:

What engines do you guys have? I have a 350 small block all stock and was advised against headers/ larger pipes since I do not plan on racing the car. I was told the motor wont breath right, therefore carb adjustment will be needed and was told that I wont see a significant increase in HP. This came from a few experienced old school vette racing individuals.

Jesse, what is your set up and did you have to adjust the carb?

I have the stock L-48 350. I have not adjusted my carb. I noticed a seat of the pants improvement as soon as the exhaust system was done.

Now I can chirp the tires on the 1-2 upshift. I could not do that before. I know my car breathes better without the 2 into 1 exhaust and cat.

Thanks for the reply. Without any carb adjustments, I would expect you are running lean. Notice any "coughing" when slowing down? Spark plugs getting white hot?

Are your headers the 1 3/8 primaries with 3" collector?
What size tubing did you go with for the entire exhaust?
Links/part numbers would be great if you remember them.

Thanks

I had a stock L-48 and noticed my car kept getting faster with a larger exhaust system behind it... a true dual 2 1/2" system will not harm any 350 the factory installed in a Corvette.

I'm sure if you ran 1 7/8" headers into 4" open exhaust that exited right behind the front wheels you might be on to something, but I really doubt it.

I also don't see why carb adjustment should be an issue. If your goal is to raise performance, odds are you're going to have to adjust the carb eventually.
