Wow...the sidepipe SteelShields really work!
I take my kids for rides all the time and actually don't let them get in or out of the car by themselves (they're 6 and 8). I pick them up and put them in/out car, lifting them over the sidepipes.
I took my daugter to Ballet the other day and just for a split second when she dropped her leg the wrong way...just a BRUSH against the sidepipe...THROUGH her tights...and there was a slight red discoloration in her skin. DARN! My wife's going to KILL me!
We sucked it up and got the $400 SteelShields. The 'Plain and Simple'. Cheaper than a scar or a trip to the hospital.
HOLY COW those things are amazing! I just got back from a trip where I intentially drove the car hard, especially on my way home.
I checked the heat at the very tip of the exhaust by the outlet. Licked my finger and tapped the metal. SIZZLE. Insta-burn.
I place my whole hand, open palm, onto the SteelShield. Not cool, but definitely not hot. 100 degrees, perhaps? It's nearly 90 degrees outside, so most of that heat is from ambient.
Simply amazing. I would consider them a 'required purchase' for anyone with sidepipes. Really cool stuff.
Will post pictures soon.
Just thought I'd share.
