Default Blower for AC

Ok I have the dash completely out of the car and the AC control is disconnected but when I turn the key to the on position the blower motor comes on real slow. Is that normal?

Yes. For certain model years, the fan will come on low speed with the ignition on. Check your owner's manual. I can't recall whether it specifically says the fan will come on, but it might be there.

Yes, it's part of how the Astro Ventilation System works.

Is this why everyone is recommending heater shut-off valves to reduce the heat in the cabin.

No. The auto fan simply blows a little outside air into the interior. Adding a cutoff valve to the heater core keeps hot coolant out of the core. No hot coolant in the core means not unwanted warm air inside the car.

It's one of the reasons however if your HVAC system is functioning properly and the seals are good a manual heater hose cutoff is not necessary....I don't have one and my car is very comfortable in any weather.

I think once Im done with this interior "fix" I'm going to try it without the cutoff and see how it goes. when I bought it I drove it home (about 2 hrs drive) and the heat inside was unbelievable, thus the reason I tore into the interior in the first place to insulate the body with the heat shielding kit I got from VetteNuts. Ive just found so many issues I'm thinking when its all back together it may work just fine as is. time will tell.

thanks for the replies
