I am sorry to hear this news. In the past I have had a house and a car broken into and item stolen from both. It just pissed me off to no end and I know you feel the same.
Were there any surveillance cameras in the area? If so see if you can view their tapes.
It just sends me over the edge to see someone work so hard for what he has and have jealous ne'er-do-well vandalize what we have worked so hard for.
You didn't do anything wrong, but like you if I had caught them in the act it would have been katy barr the door.
Good luck in getting it resolved to your satisfaction.
Yea, my idea is that it was that class of punk that just had to do some dirt to someone who may have something nice and they don't have sh**. Probably never will either because they are to damn lazy and figure someone else owes them.
Well, enough ranting. Monday I will start my search for where and how to repair the damage. The previous owner spent big $$$ for the black repaint and it was a great job. Some of my neighbors see how much time I spend keeping it spotless and shined and good naturedly raze me about it. I'm not ashamed to tell them how proud I am of this ride.
Anyway, I'll get black beauty back in top form.
Wow, so sorry to see this happened to you. What do we have to do pay a person to watch our cars. I use mine very little and will be more cautious in the future. Some people just hate people that own something nice. I hate to think of what I would do if I were to catch somebody doing this to anybody's car or property.
Invest in a security camera to put in your car. I don't think they are that much. I've been meaning to check into it myself. Being a former cop, you should know people aren't exactly always honest (think traffic "accidents" where someone supposedly suffers from whiplash, etc.)
i am soo sorry for you man that sucks hard
i hope you get the benefit of small town and catch who did it if you do please post the address of said suspect i am sure the wonderful c3 group of owners on this site would be glad teach the punk a lesson for you
i had my truck and my wifes prius and all the cars on our block keyed monday night my neighbors and wife are pissed i am just glad my vette was in the house one of my neighbors has a gorgeous blue m3 that was hit the worst. only time he eer left it outside the garage over night in three years custom paint job destroyed. people are pathetic i hope the repaint makes it look better than before and you find a whole new love for your car. we all love these cars no one with a brain/heart is gonna say "told you so" to a wounded c3 group member
sorry to hear about the problems you had. Just thinking about it makes me frustrated.
I dont know why some people look at other peoples property and think that messing it up will make them feel better.
I keep a car cover on my 75 parked outside my house. Someone threw a loaded burrito at it last weekend. Sour cream all over the cover. So I am glad the cover was on to protect the car.
But in your case...... you drive to the store to enjoy your car and end up with this misery. Why are some people so stupid to do this type of damage.
I'm ready for the "I told you so" and the " you were careless" comments. I seldom ever leave my black '69 coupe unattended. I never go to a movie or something like that and leave it in a parking spot. Yesterday I went to a neighboring small town on an errand. Parked the Vette next to a pharmacy and was in there maybe 20 minutes. Came out and some SOB #@$%&**# had keyed it on the top of the left front quarter and all along the right side door to the right rear quarter. Some of you here know I am a retired cop but I'm sure if I had come out and caught the SOB I would now probably be in jail.
Lesson re-learned.
Y'know, there are a few careless things people do with their cars that could result in bad things, where people might suggest the owner bore some responsibility. However, I don't think this is one of them.
These cars are here for us to enjoy. Ive got a couple that I have a ton of money in, that I take on errands, leave in lots for awhile, and take the same chance you did. Some people question it.
I did not buy this car to hide in my house or nervously look out the window when I go someplace.
Those people SVCK that did that to you, but as you know being on the job, there is no way to completely insulate yourself from the garbage of this world. They. Are. Everywhere.
Fix it and move on. Do not let anyone make you enjoy your car one second less. I won't.

Certainly nothing I'm about to say makes this deliberate act of vandalism anything less than criminal. But I can see where parking this Vette some place where it doesn't belong might provoke keying. Let's say in a handicapped zone without the required placard. In a loading zone. In a no parking zone, or a 5 minute parking zone and he left it there unattended for 20 minutes. Somebody MIGHT have gone the vigilante route and decided to seek vengeance on his own.
Perhaps, and this certainly isn't unheard of, someone this cop once locked up finally got his just deserts. It's called karma.
That sucks. people are pieces of sh*t. My car was keyed a little while back. SOB got me on the entire drivers side, tail-lights right to the headlights.
In the end, it's probably a good thing you didn't see him though.
How deep are the scratches/ how do you plan on going about fixing it?
I have a few spots left to touch up still, and to be honest, I haven't put a high speed buffer to it yet. From 3-4 feet away you can't see anything, doesn't matter how hard you look. If you go right up close you can see it a bit. But like I said, I'm thinking if I get a high speed polisher on there one day, it might fully hide it.
No improper parking involved. It was nosed in to the side of the pharmacy where I stopped in a diagonal parking spot. It only took me about five minutes to pick up what I needed but then I ran into a friend and we talked for 10 or 15 minutes. Had I not ran into the friend I may very well have caught the bastard(s). Oh well, that's fate.

I don't disagree that those scenarios could possibly provoke someone to commit a still criminal, revolting act. My comment was assuming he was simply parked in a normal, legal spot, just unattended.
