Default Clearning a steering wheel

I just picked up a 69 coupe...and one thing that bothers me is the steering wheel...it rather sticky and has years of dirt and grime on the
rim. It's the black Vinyl covering. What would be the best product to clean this with? Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Jeff

its the plastic itself thats outgassing, not much you can do, I use a rag with simple green and it takes care of it for awhile, but it comes back.
Good luck, I'm sure others will chime in with their remedy's.
Regards
Roy

Dawn dish detergent..warm water.....old toothbrush. Won't harm the wheel, may take 2 or 3 applications.

As Roy has stated, if cleaning only solves the problem temporarily, then maybe the SEM product line may need to be looked at.

Hey Guys...thanks for all the suggestions. I have been also thinking about changing the steering wheel to one with a fatter grip. I'm so use to the newer Corvette steering wheels
that I forgot how skinny the old ones were. The C2 wheel seems ever skinner. It just doesn't feel like you have as much control with the old wheels.

If it is plastic outgassing, couldn't you treat it to a repeated heating/cleaning process to get all the casting solvents out?
