Backfire
I just changed out a rocker arm because it was tapping and had some wear. (Before changing i adjusted it till it was quite but decided to check the rocker and push-rod for wear, rocker had some)
With the valve closed, i removed the rocker. I counted the turns for reference. Before installing the new rocker, i sprayed a bit of carb cleaner down the push in case the lifter was sticking a bit and let it sit over night. (i saw this idea here on forum)
I just finished putting the new rocker on and tightened one turn less than the removal, just till i could barely spin the push-rod.
I then put the rocker cover back on so i could warm the engine up before doing the final adjustment.
I tried to fire it up and it wouldn't run, just wanted to backfire through the carb!!! How is this possible? That engine ran perfectly the night before.
Did the carb cleaner screw up the lifter or possibly diluted the oil so it wasn't pumped up? How long should the engine have to be turned over to pump that lifter?
I can't understand that much backfiring from one oil-less lifter. I am lost on this one!
I would surely appreciate your feedback.
Thanks,
007.
