I know not everyone likes these, but I spent the weekend installing them and think they turned out great. Not sure if I want to go to the other style pins yet or not, kinda diggin the old school look for now with the lanyards. It is quite a process, but it was a great cool weekend for it.
how much flex is there in the aerocatch design? these old rust buckets shake and shimmy quite a bit.
Well, it really seems to work just like a conventional hood pin, just with a cover. Click on the link I posted and watch the video, it shows how the mechanism works.
Cool for a late model, but not the look I am going for with my L88 hood. In the end it will have a Baldwin motion inspired paint scheme, an 81 about a decade late. But with a more modern themed car those would work well.

Mechanically, the aerocatch pins aren't much different than regular hood pins, just a different look. New skool and old skool, I guess you could say. I think you made the right choice for your car, but mine (an '80, so pretty much the same body style) is a little more low key, and I think the aerocatch pins will fit my style better. However, they are still hood pins, and the mounting of the pins themselves is what I am really interested in. Your pins are symmetrical, and when I look under my hood I see that the hood latches, and the obvious spots for the pins to be installed easily, are not symmetrical, side to side. Was there much fabrication work involved in making the pins end up where you wanted them and was it difficult?

Keep the shiny side up!
Scott
It was time consuming but not incredibly difficult. Just start with figuring out one side and then measuring and making the other side is exactly in the same spot. Then adjust side to side until they are where you want them, I moved the pin posistion a few times because I did not like where they were going to end up on the hood. I then used a dab of some wheel shine goop on top of each pin and lowered the hood till they just touched and drilled right where the goop left a dab, it was dead on that way.
