Default Started the Dynamat Install

After doing my new heater core install and a few other little things, I got started on the Dynamat...found it to be very easy - and very time consuming...!

I bought 2 boxes....might need a third - hope not but if I do - oh well.
I'm going to cover pretty much every surface that I can. So far the hardest part is laying upside down on my back over the waterfall....

It seems to me that really rolling the stuff on good and tight is going to give the best results....ya need good contact to dampen the vibrations.....

Just started.....

My $1.99 roller from Home Depot (Home paint dept)

Are you going to use Reflectix or any other insulation? I recommend both a sound dampener and insulation for best results.

Awesome. I did this mod in 2010. It made the cabin much, much more comfortable. Quieter too. I drove a friend's vette last night and there is a big difference between mine (quiet) and his (stock, noisy).

Did you do down inside the rear storage areas too? Looks like that would be the hardest areas to get.

My install thread:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...e-at-last.html

Dynamat and Reflectix made an amazing difference in my 79...new stereo sounds incredible, car is smooth when cruising, big heat reduction. You'll like it.

Watch the edges...Dynamat gets real sharp and you tend to smooth it with your hand. Deep nasty cuts if you're not careful

Enjoy and take your time...well worth the effort,
Steve

I used Second Skin and used a heat gun at times to soften it up, mostly in corners.

I used the exact same part when I did my sound deadening material. The plastic handle snapped after just a few passes so I ended up just using my fingers to grab the roller part. Yeah my knuckles got a beating this way, but felt I was able to get in tighter spots without the handle being there.

Default Me too

I sprayed the LizardSkin last weekend on everything, including the inside of the doorskins, then covered everything with Reflectix over that.

New Seatbelts and Carpet is going in this weekend.

These cars are much more fun to drive without the cabin heat problem. A couple months after I bought mine I was cruising at night with the T-tops out. About 80 deg. outside. On the way home my knees and calves started to sweat due to the heat. It was an oven.

Not so anymore. Much cooler and quieter. You guys will love your cars eve more when you are done. If you can pump in some ice cold air on top of that you will really be comfortable.

I've never drove mine yet. I'm still in the building stages. Do the interiors get that hot with the 350's or it this a big block thing?

All the cars... big blocks generate a bit more heat though.

I only have experience with the 350s but I imagine it is possible with the BBs too.

The fuel air mix is converted to energy. Some of that energy gets to the rear wheels but some is converted to heat. The SBC radiates that heat and it gets thru the firewall and tranny tunnel. I first saw this problem on my Dad's '72 Impala. In the heat of the summer that car was a bear to ride in. Radiant heat thru the firewall. Same problem in my vette until I did the hushmat/reflectix.

This fix was a major factor in making the car comfortable to drive. A/C was the other part.
