Default Homemade Engine Test Stand!!!

Hi everyone one. I wanted to share my last welding project in case it could be helpful to others. I am in the process of rebuilding a 1968 vette and I wanted to test the engine on a stand before it goes in the engine bay. I also have 400 sbc that I am going to build up so I decided to build my own engine test stand. I thought about just buying one but the one I looked at seem a bit on the flimsy side. Here are a few pictures and the link goes more in depth about the build. Unfortunately it isn’t completely finished yet; I need to add a radiator support, wiring, and just a few more little adjustments but I think I will add them once I get closer to having a running engine. Hope this can be of help to someone.

Actually, there was an episode on one of the weekend Powerblock TV programs, showing how to build one of these. Perhaps you you can track the episode down, for some tips. May have even been Two Guys Garage, but really not sure.

Are you going to be able to attach a flywheel with that setup? I'm kinda in the process of building one also but I'm going to use the bell housing to mount the rear of the engine.

I believe it won't be a problem, everything is adjustable so I can move the engine forward or backwards as needed. For now I wanted to attach the engine to the strongest point possible which would be the steel block in comparison to the aluminum bell housing. Later on I might install the bell housing which would only consist of flipping the mounting arms inward.

Good luck with the build.

Sounds good, let us know how it works out when you get to run the engine. Heck, I haven't started mine yet, if everything works out, I might just steal/borrow your plans.
