You can also check out lateral-g.net. There's lot of pro-touring cars and trucks over there also, although not may Corvettes but well worth a look.

More details in "my garage"

WOW. I really can't wait to start tearing mine all apart and get into this.

I love the pro touring look. I wish there were more tracks near me in the midwest. I guess it's time to start researching suspension upgrades.

For those who have more experience, is a coil over rear suspension (like the SharkBite system) better than the fiberglass rear spring system? I love the look of the shark bite set up, but I know Vansteel also makes a rear coil over set up as well.

I guess my question is: which set up is best for track use?

Pat your Vette turned out really nice, 1st time I've seen it since it's been done.

I like to think of mine as a Protouring Vette, just not quite there yet

Briefly, so as to not sidetrack the thread; coil-overs are king, but it depends on how serious you plan on getting and what kind of budget you have as to what type of setup may be best suited to your goals. Also, there are a good number of other basic improvements that aren't all that expensive which should be on your menu. In any event, doing plenty of homework first will put you ahead of the game when you actually start modding.

I went with the Van Steel version on mine, the only thing I changed is I went with a Ridetech triple adjustable coil over. The advantages I see for the coil overs is that a) you can buy the coils in many different spring rates b) save weight over the stock metal spring and c) ride height adjustability (and you dont have to worry about tire to spring clearence with larger rear wheels)
The downside is the cost.
There has been some discussion on here and another forum about the two versions, I think the Van Steel is the more traditional and therefore more proven design.
I also went with the Meyer tubualar A-arm and coil over conversion in the front.

Default Before Pro touring, there were Cafe' Racers

I built this as a peroid correct Cafe' Racer from the late 70's/early 80's. The only modern concessions were LED lights, Stereo w/iPod dock and tires. VB&P fiberglass springs frt/r, Tubular frt. A arms, rack and pinion steering, spreader bar, Willwood 6 piston frt. brakes, JFZ 4 piston rear, hydroboost, Koni shocks (dbl. adj rear), 16 x 13 rear wheels, 16 x 12 frts, 5 speed, Moon roof t-tops, '82 seats, Norskog digital dash, '70 Dodge Charger flip gas lid.

The motor is a mild 350 with a little cam, MSD, Edelbrock Intake and carb, Stahl headers and sidepipes. Hopefully by next year that will be out and this 383 will go in w/vintage air.

NICE. The Greenwood Daytona or GTO would be my first or second choices, but I certainly wouldn't mind having a CanAm body kit (tho I'd personally skip the 6-taillight rear bumper) complete w/correct adjustable rear wing/spoiler. Happen to know anything about the blue Daytona next door? Man, I haven't been able to find those vintage BBS wheels anywhere.

I spoke to the owner at Carlisle. He told me it's the only Greenwood Turbo painted Sunoco blue (1 of 1). If I remember correctly he is the 3rd owner and he bought it from a friend. He didn't say what he paid for it (an I was not about to ask) but I'm pretty sure he said it cost over 55K when it was new. That was a ton of money back then. It looks very original as far as the turbo engine, paint and interior which is dark blue cloth. Certainly a very nice find for someone who is into the "wide bodies".

Yes those BBS wheels are very rare. I've only seen them on road race cars and haven't seen a set in the last 20 years except on this car.

I've set my '70 roadster up for what I think is good all around performance, plenty of horsepower with an OD 5 speed (.64 gear instead of .82), road hugging suspension upgrades, & sticky tires. I live in the mountains so a .82 fifth road race gear wouldn't really get used as much as a crusie gear. She performs very well for a staight line run when you to want to also.

I've got a couple of build threads on the forum that detail most of the work. Links to the 2 main build projects are:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...ransplant.html

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...-upgrades.html

Some of my key mods are:
555 cu. in. motor made with a Dart block and Brodix heads, ~675 hp.
Keisler TKO 600 w/ .64 5th connects to a SPEC Stage 3+ clutch/pressure plate/fly wheel.
Gary Ramedi custom 12 bolt rear end with 3.73 gears & 3 1/2 half shafts connect to Tom's axles.
3" mandrel bent stainless exhaust w/ Magnaflow X-pipe and mufflers.
Sumped fuel tank with Holley electric fuel pump feeds a 950 cfm 4150 bodied custom Holley carb from the Carb Shop.
Dewitt's aluminum radiator w/ twin SPAL electric fans keep it cool.
Suspension is dropped 2" and uses QA1 coil overs on all 4 corners, tube A-Arms upper & lower, VB&P spreader bar, Steeriods manual rack & pinion steering.
18" wheels shod with sticky Nitto tires all around with Wilwood 13" brakes, 6-Piston in front & 4 in the rear powered by an ABS Powerbrake electric booster & aluminum master.

She's light, powerful, fast, stops quick, carves corners, & turns heads....

New paint coming this winter will finish her up. She'll be Back in Black (triple)...

A real Greenwood conversion with the full package including his 5 link rear suspension.
