I have a 1968 with SB and no air. This radiator does not agree with the one in the AIM and all the brackets do not fit. The radiator has no fill on it like somepictures I see. Is this a BB radiator in the car or ?
That radiator is definitely, not a stock 68 radiator... much too wide. I had changed my 68 SB aluminum radiator for the BB copper/brass radiator and it was not as wide as that radiator. GM really goofed with the carry-over 63-67 style radiator support and smaller radiators for the 68's. They had to change the supports in 69 to fix this. My stock 327-350 HP with tiny aluminum radiator quit cooling adequately when it got older.
Your car didn't come with serpentine belts, a relocated non-stock alternator or what appears to be a belt driven supercharger either. What is your concern with the unit that's in the car? Does it overheat despite the non-stock dual electric fans which are attached?
The cooling works well but the issue is that the small braided hose that can be seen top right of the photo that is connected to nothing used to connect to a "nipple" on the top of the radiator but the nipple broke off. The other end of this braided hose connects to the top of the expansion tank. I am figuring that I need to replace the radiator but not sure what I've got or need to replace it.
the champion that that resembles are in-expensive, that fitting that you refer to is usually connected next to the radiator cap , and allows water from the radiator to expand into the expansion tank past the spring pressure of the cap. since I dont see a radiator cap on your radiator, I dont think thats where that line goes. could you post a pic. of your radiator cap? you may not need a new radiator. but only to hook that line to the right spot. That may even be the overflow for the overflow tank
