So I really appreciate the fellas for helping me with my brakes today. But as always this is my first rebuild so I'm back with more questions. I have the entire dash and everything torn apart. Basically just a mess of wires next to the firewall. The power windows have worked until today something arched in the heap of wires and now neither power window works. Found the little bus fuse box on the firewall driver side. No issues there. Any help? Any idea as to why they suddenly both won't go up.... Basically it's left in an apt parking lot with dim lighting with windows down. So not the best situation for my baby. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
The power window harness is a separate harness from the main and others. It runs from the switches through the console and to the doors... but it picks up power from the fuse panel plugged in on an auxiliary plug in.
So.. you didn't say what year the car was so I'm posting a "In general" picture that may help you...
Now.. when we have cars in our shop where the power windows are not working the first thing I have the tech's do is look at the amp gauge when trying to roll up or down the window. If you see deflection in the gauge then you have power going to the motor. If you have no deflection then you have a problem in either the switch or wiring.
So.. I think you should go to the fuse panel and make sure the extra harness is plugged in... I've kicked this out of my own car with my boot before so make sure you didn't knock the connector out of the fuse panel.
If you didn't then pull the jumper plug out and see if you have power on that terminal in the fuse box... If you do then you'll have to find the issue in the wires. If you don't then you may have blown a fuse.
Alright so here's what I've concluded so far. First off its a '77. Ive replaced all fuses with new ones regardless of whether they were good or bad to start with. I've got two wires coming from the power window bundle of we're going to the fuse box. A pink with black stripe and a orange with black stripe. The pink with blak stripe has no power to it. The orange with black stripe does have power to it, A constant 12. I've made sure everything is connected properly and In the right place as I haven't messed with the fuse box at all before this and the windows worked yesterday. Is there a relay or anything that could be bad along the lines? Kinda screwed living in apt complex windows down. Thanks for the help Willcox
