Default Exhaust paste?

I am getting ready to install the Corvette Central exhaust on my 75 coupe and have a question. I have heard that, in addition to the exhaust clamps, it is a good idea to use exhaust paste, to ensure a good seal in the system. To the contrary, I have also seen discussion about this stuff just getting dry and crumbly and being of no value. So, what say you all? Is exhaust past necessary or will the clamps seal the system sufficiently? As always, thanks for any and all input and advice.

IMO no paste. I have never used any on any vehicle and have never had a problem.

Default exhaust paste

I've been using silicone sealer to seal exhaust pipes. It wont burn out and cures quick, I also use it instead of header gaskets. Its worked fine for me since the mid 70s.

smear it on the inside of each coupling before you slide them together, use to use it in a custom shop I worked in the make sure there'd be no come back leaks when a customer didnt want to pay the extra for the exhaust welded together. works great
