Hello I just got my first C3 yesterday. Hooray for me!!!
The girl I bought the car from told me the only problem was that she had to pull the radio fuse because the interior lights would stay on when you shut the car down and closed the door.
When I got home from work I put the fuse in and sure enough she was correct. Radio fuse in - lights stay on. When you start the car they shut off as they are supposed to but when you shut down and close the door they stay on.
Anyone have any experience with this issue? Any suggestions for a fix or a place to start looking?
First off, congrats on the purchase and welcome to the forum.
I would trace the wires from the fuse box to the lights. Could have a short or a ground not working. There will be others that come in with a better answer, I'm sure.
She needs a new paint job, paint is peeling off the nose but a small price to pay to get my dream car. No rust to speak of and it runs like a beast and the interior is near perfect. My mechanic said he never has seen a C3 this clean and I think I did pretty good on the price.
Lights staying on is usually the delay timer has died. Its behind the passenger side dash.
Most of the vendors sell replacements.
I think it is orange (maybe blue) about the size of a pez dispenser. Is it rude for me to ask what you paid for her? I'm jealous! I bought a real fixer-uper about a year ago. I've learned tons about C3 corvettes though!

.....also, did you find out if your paint guy will paint just the front fender?? The rest of the paint looks cherry to me! Seems a shame to just strip it all off.
Hey Ksumt I ended paying $6000 for it. She had started at $8500 came down to $7999 she ended accepting $6000 in the end. Based on my mechanics inspection and what guys here on the forum have said I think I did pretty good.
A local guy with 30 years bodywork/painting said that he could paint the front for $2800. I have talked to 6 or 7 people in the area and all highly reccomend him. A comment he made to me was " I am going to need the car for about 3 months so I can do it right, are you ok with that?" He said that he needed to prep it properly and wanted to take his time to make sure it came out how he wanted. He said no bad paint jobs leave his shop. He talked to me about blending the front to the rest of the car and feathering into the doors so it all matched etc...
I feel pretty good about him doing the job based on the conversation. This is side work for him and he has a shop at his house. I have been told he has done a few Corvettes in his day.

I was following your other post Glad to see you were able to work a deal. I've owned two 82's so if you have any questions I may be able to help you. I'm no expert by any means but I learned a lot restoring the last one. The first was a near new Collector Edition so all I did to that one in 7 years was general maintenance.
Interior lights are on a timer. When working properly, they will stay on for a short period after you leave the car and shut the door.
They are not shutting off at all. I have been directed to the Delay Relay behind the glovebox. I am going to take a look at that tonight and possibly bypass as I have read others have done. If that corrects the problem I will order one.
By the way where do you guys order your C3 parts from? Is there a vendor or places that are better than others, pricing, dependable etc...
Thank You, appreciate the links. The one I looked up last night was $98 glad to see there are alternatives.
Thanks
I can't belive you got that car for 6. Great deal bro!
Call "Vettes Unlimited, Inc" out of florida. they are a corvette salvage. I'm 99% sure you could get this part for cheap from them used. From my experience, some aftermarket parts like this comprimise quality compared with the original parts. Plus, they are usually twice as much than a good used part. Just my $0.02.
Their number it 850-398-5835. Ask for Phillip......real nice guy. They only send good used parts....no B.S. Tell him Andy from Kansas recomended him (I buy lots of parts from him.....maybe he'll give me a discount for sending him business )

I know the owner, Scott, so if you need to me to look for any specific parts from Vettes Unlimited, let me know. I live about 20 minutes south of his shop.

Cool! I wish I lived close. There are no Corvette salvages anywhere near me. It would be nice to be able to just go pick up parts like that. I would save lots on shipping! I haven't worked with Scott, but I have really been impressed with them. Seem like really good people!

Thank You ksumt and Tally I went ahead and bypassed the Timer for the time being. It cured the problem so now that I know that I will order the circuit board.
Wanted to have it in somewhat working order so I could my wife out on a date night in the new ride. Took a nice cruise through Ocean City, Md (we live about 20 minutes away) and got some dinner.
Once the "summer season ends OC hasJeep Week, Bike Week, Hot Rod Week, Corvette Week and Zip Zip Car Week. We partcipated in Jeep Week, Bike Week and now we can participate in Corvette Week (and maybe even Hot Rod Week, plenty of Corvettes show up).
This week happens to be Zip Zip Car week and we were cruising through OC surrounded by tricked out VWs and the like sounding like a swarm of bees and there we are in the "new old" Corvette rumbling down the main drag. It was kind of cool that even the young kids in the Zip Zips were looking at us at the stop lights and giving the thumbs up.
