I read the Wilcox how to install the header bar but I had some questions.
I bought the fixed headlights from ecklers. I removed the old pop ups to find out the header bar wasn't bonded it was just holding the lights together. Anyways I read about leaving the old bond on and just bonding it back. I figured I could sand the parts down and use the adhesive Wilcox used. Is that's all there is to it
I too am replacing the header bar on my 82. My origianl once unbloted came out real easy. I purchased a replacement headerbar from ecklers and plan on using the Sem panel adhesive. I had to purchase a special adhesive gun that mixes the two parts properly,
I actually have not dont the repair yet but plan on it next week. I will post pics of the progress. Good luck
Hummmm You have the header out.. remove the old glue. If there are rivets buried under it remove them as well...
Then bond it back together per the instructions on our site.
I thought they discontinued the rivets in the later C3s? But if you have them, the Willcox method is the ONLY way to do it and have it come out right, at least it worked VERY well for me!
SO, it's possible to remove that header bar without pulling the entire front end apart?? I didn't think it was, my '72 has the usual swollen rivet problems and I just keep grinding them down when working on it, not the best solution, I know, so to grind off the rivets and then what??
I wouldn't keep grinding on top Mrvette... that makes the fiberglass thinner and easier for the rivet to push up.
Putting the header in is a PITA but if you take your time anyone can do it. Removing any rivets is a must and 1 tube of the glue is all you need. If replacing just the metal then you'll need to leave some of the old bonding strip in there for spacing.
