Default Help with steering on 77

My 77 has play in front end and hit a bump and it wanders. Have new ball joints, idler arm, pitman arm, shocks, springs, all the bushings and the p/s pump and steering cyl. On the rear new 355 lb. composite
spring and shocks and bushings. Lastly alignment. Maybe adj. the bilt and nut on st. box?
Thanks all
Rich

Your post isnt clear, did you hit the bump after replacing all those items or after? I notice there is no mention of tie rod ends or center link or rag joint? With the engine off and using just one or two fingers, how much play is in the steering wheel?

Default 77 vette

Most of the front end was worn and sloppy. Probably 3 inches of play. And the ends and link were all changed. TNX MEL

check the rag joint and tighten the box. if that doesn't do it try more caster and try more or less toe in. how old are the tires? don't waste your time with old tires that need to be replaced.

if....all parts are good, take it back to the alignment shop, or another alignment shop and have them add another degree of positive caster to both sides. Some shops have their own version of proper alignment spec's that they set every car that comes in with, it works on most cars , but not vettes

all the above, and trust me on this one, rear trailing arm bushings.they won't affect play in the steering but will greatly affect control over ruts and bumps.

Using this method, how much play should there be? I have about .5 to 1inch play and I tracked it down to the steering box. Is this type of play normal or should I play with the steering box?

Thanks

be real careful not to over tighten the box or it can ruin it. i doubt it will cure anything unless everything else is good. like, if caster is too low, it won't fix that. it just takes the play out.

Yes! Upgrading all the rubber in the rear will make a c3 handle like a real sports car!
