Did all 75s come with seatbelt interlock, and if not, how do you know if the car was originally equipped? I want to replace the wiring harness in the dash and have to choose between a harness with or without the interlock. My car's seatbelt buckles have wires oming from the bottom of each, but I can't find anywhere they would connect to. As always, any and all help is appreciated.
Only early '75s had the interlock, do you have this silver box with the orange base on your firewall?
That is a negative. I do not have that box on my firewall. So, then considering that and the fact that my car was a July build, it would be safe to assume that mine does not have the interlock?
My April 75 car did not have the interlock hardware on the firewall, BUT the wiring was on the seat belts. I figure they eliminated this "safety feature" but still used the seat belt assemblies they had in stock.
There were a lot of complaints about this piece of "protection" not working correctly before it was eliminated.
Ignition interlock. It is just a relay that is on the purple wire between the key and the starter relay. It would not let you start the car until the seatbelts were fastened, or, you had to turn the key to on, open the hood, get out and press that little button on the relay to manually close the contact, close the hood, get back in, start the car.
