Willcox Corvette Temperature Gauge Video - What can your non working gauge tell you!
Boy.. I feel like I've been making some progress on bring these videos to the public. There are still over forty to finish up..
This single video took 36 tries to get it right. I'm not kidding. We experienced everything from compressors kicking on in the middle of it, to friends walking in.. goofs... stabbing my finger.. and so on. But is is now finished.
I still think an out-take video would be a welcome video for a few of you to laugh at (or with) me... but it will be down the road.
Testing a 68-76 Temperature Gauge -or- What your non working gauge can tell you!

There is no difference... the only difference is there are other factors for failure with the printed circuit on the back.

All our videos are being added to the website now.. so you'll be able to search them with ease under the new tab from the middle drop down box.

79 corvette guages work until I turn headlights on and add brightness to instrument lights than all guages go to zero, one strange thing happened clock worked for 4 hours than quit, turn brightness down to no instument lights guaes go on. By the way enjoy videos you are publishing on your site.

Ok.. funny you asked this question because I've had the exact same issue on a car that I built 20 years ago. You see, I had this car that was stored in a pole barn with 12k miles on it. Those little cat food critters got up in the wiring and ate the power lead plastic to the distributor. Long store short, FIRE.... and I decided to fix the car (huge mistake too).
When I finished the car.. when I would drive at night and turn on the gauges they would all go to zero like someone turned them off... The problem.... Main Harness grounds....
The main harness ground at the A-pillar was corroded after the fire and combined with the same issue at the number 1 body mounts... There is a grounding cable that runs as a jumper from the top of the body mounting bolt to the bottom to assure the A pillar is grounded. When I cleaned both and re-installed them the problem went away.
Now why the gauges? The headlamp circuit is seeking a ground... it will take whatever it can find as one too... The grey wires to the lamps in the center cluster are the likely candidate for this ground when it can't find one.

Awesome vid much appreciated! Have a question though, each time you disconnected the ohms wire and reattached it, the gauge "freaked out" turning in all sorts of directions even 360 degrees sometimes. This is the issue I am having constantly. It does stay put at the right temp for about 15 seconds or so but then it goes back to it's spinning every whichaway. Any ideas on the cause of this?
Thanks in advance and thank you again for all your great information!

Thank you, its comments like yours that make it worth it for me.
The only time the gauge does a 360 is when I'm reattaching the ohms input wire and that is because I'm trying to connect the alligator clamp to a stud and making intermittent contact with the stud. If I could do it, shoot the vid and keep everything quick and clam it would never do this.
So what is causing this on your gauge... My best guess would be you have a issue in the ohms input wire. Either the connector at the end of the wire is opened up or you have a break that is down to a couple of strands of wire. But the flipping of the needle is caused by me making brief contact with the stud a couple of times each time I put the clip back on.. (touching and not touching in a quick fashion).
