Hi Guys, new member. Looking for information on hood surround for my car. Need to purchase the part but have heard different stories regarding it. Press molded version: more expensive. Paint can lift if fiberglass not set. Hand layup: cheaper, more readily available. Was also told that the 1979 year material was different from both, "sheet molded" (marble like appearance). Can this be confirmed? Also told can finish off the hand layup material with some extra work on it so it looks like the press molded. Not a body shop guy, just a driver. No show car, good condition driver only. Any comments welcome. Thanks.
I have a original NOS upper surround panel that has a crack in one place on it that would be very fixable. It is about 2" but the area of the crack is on the bonding-strip area.
If interested email me at Support@Willcoxcorvette.com I'll send you some detailed pictures. It is made from the original SMC fiberglass. 800.00 + shipping and crate.. it will cost me 50.00 to make a crate for it. (unless you are close enough to pick it up).
Edit: I got this down yesterday to take the pictures for you and this morning a walk in customer purchased it.
I did talk with your body man today for a while and I'm going to get you a price on the Shermershiem panel. It is the highest quality out there for your car.
Willcox.
