realistically,at those prices, what you are going to get is a parts car.better to look in the 10k range and bargain from there.you will still see some junk but also alot more cars that might be acceptable.

And there ARE running and driving C3's to be had for under 6k. Have read about them numerous times on this forum. Not looking for a show car, just something I can drive and fix up as I enjoy it, but own for 15+ years, not flip. So something rust free is priority #1. Maybe it will take longer to find one than I was expecting. I thought "this economy" that I keep hearing about was hitting some people hard. Apparently not that hard, as Mulletman #2 had lost his job but was still holding onto his piece of Americana.

Thats what you get for looking at $4000 junk!
I don't have a mullet and you never came and looked at my car for sale.
Quit wasting your time looking for a bargin that you will have to sink $10000 more into, whats the purpose???

Sent you a PM. There are other factors involved that preclude me from making what I consider to be a smarter investment which would be to buy a better car. I get that argument, and agree wholeheartedly.

It just seems like the focus of this thread is all over the map.
The title is "the Typical C3 owner." Well, the typical '69 BB convertible owner who's had 10 other Corvettes is likely a bit different from a first time owner of a 1979 coupe. I'm going to guess you will have a hard time coming up with a "typical" profile of an owner of the cars from 1968-1982.
Then it became about rednecks, clothing, NASCAR, geography and mullets.
It further went on about misrepresented cars for sale and uninformed owners.
The point I alluded to earlier was that a < $5000 asking price C3 is probably pretty junky, regardless of how it's presented.
I'm soooo confused.

Someone bought on the low end and found out the hard way ya get what you pay for hoping to unload it on someone else with the dream and no experience. Doesnt hurt hoping for a deal but still...
I sold my 73 12 yrs ago for $6500. #s car paint was getting some wear interior absolutely perfect drove well.
The people showing up to spend that kind of money could care less about #s.....they just wanted in a Vette cheap.
There were a couple #s type guys who showed up expecting something flawless for the money. Those conversations were fun. They did not walk away happy
Dont know if this helps..good luck on the hunt thats always the fun part.

As I read this you seem to be a want to be Corvette owner snob!!! Now you see my opinion of what I read is as dumb as you are being listing what you think people look like!!!!!

Melting Slicks
I bought my 75 C3 from a contractor with a mullet.... $2500 and the gem was mine. All I had to do to the car was absolutely everything.... At some point (as was suggested to me) this car was probably completely underwater - though no appreciable rust ... still
Seriously, what were you expecting? that said, I'm puzzled at the "no" to $3750.... seems close enough, but then again, you may have dodged a large bullet so count your blessings.

I've never paid attention to what other men look like or how they dress, never understand men that do that sort of b.s. Do pay attention what ladies look like and how they dress, understand that b.s. big time. When I'm looking at a car to buy, all I really see is the car...unless its an attractive lady selling it , then, my attention gets divided and I sometimes pay a bit more than I would if I were buying from....anyone else.

The ones with higher incomes would seem to have more toys, in better condition, but are not as likely to liquidate toys for financial gain.
There ARE exceptions of course, to both scenarios. I am not proposing that there are not deals to be found out there.... just that they are few and far between, and it WILL take you a while to locate one.
