Default Wiring help needed

Can someone tell me what this wire goes to? When I took the interior apart, I labeled it "heater control" but I can't find anywhere that it could possibly attach to. If you can't tell, it is running in the same group of wires that the cigarette lighter power is in. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bryan

That looks like the ground wire for the heater light/cig lighter. Should be male tab mounted to the metal bezel that the female plug slides onto.

Could be console plate ground wire. The should be a spade terminal on the underside of the trim plate.

I agree that it has to be a ground wire, but unfortunately, the only terminal on the underside of the trim plate is on the cigarette lighter. Assuming that it is a ground, couldn't I just extend the wire and ground it somewhere else?

The cig lighter spade is not a ground. That should be a red (I think) heavier wire. You can actually ground anywhere on the bezel. Might want to be sure it's actually a ground wire before you go too far.

What model year?

I agree with Raphiki: lighters have only one connection and that's the hot. They ground through the console trim plate.

How about right here? Call out #5:

It's a 75. I agree that the terminal on the cigarette lighter is not a ground. The orange wire in the picture with the female connector is the power for the cig lighter. The question remains then, what is the black wire? It looks like it should be a ground but where does it connect to?

Try UPC 12 Sheet B2 in the AIM and see if you don't have the same spade terminal on the underside of the console. The 68-76 consoles and plates are essentially the same. The terminal for the ground is on my 68 and was on my 74.

I found it on UPC 12L Sheet 14 in the AIM. The terminal has gone missing from my console but I will just make an alternate connection. Thanks to all for the assist.

the ground for the cigarette lighter is a large ring that goes around the lighter base. You have to unscrew the base to take it off.
