Removed carpet and padding on a 1980 vette. Would like to replace everything that was on the floor. Looking for suggestions on some kind of paint to seal up the floor. Looking for advice on what heat sheild - sound deading product to use. Also would a new set of carpet come with pading?
Are the Wilcox carpet sets pre molded to fit the floor contour?
i redid mine a couple years back. wire brush and some rustoliom paint on the floor. then some insulation from home depot that they use for A/C duct work. metal on the outsides and foam in middle. then Wilcox carpet. i also got the new seats covers with the foam already inside. best move i have made on this vette!!!
I am doing the same for my 78. I am using rustoleum, layer of truck bedding (spray can) then reflectix from Home Depot. The carpet should come with padding
I'd use POR15 for paint and yes the carpet from Wilcox is molded and comes with padding, there are various types of sound deadening products, I went with one from vettenuts but am not 100% happy with it.
If you are really serious about sound/heat deadening, you should use Lizard Skin. It is a two stage process that is sprayed on with a paint sprayer (I can give you mine if you want it), and would solve both your paint and sound deadening problems. I have used in on my Vette with great results. Heat is significantly lessened, which I guess is not as much of a problem if you have AC, but my car doesn't. I never got a decibel level beforehand to test whether the soundproofing works. If you don't want to use this, you should go with Dynamat, they are the industry standard for soundproofing.
Two of the more popular insulators/sound deadners are Dynamat and Reflectix - - the latter available at Lowes or Home Depot - - I used spray adhesive to keep things in place.
Willcox seems to get good reviews on the forum for carpet - - I'd purchased a couple sets at Ecklers and was also satisfied . . measure twice, cut conservatively - you can always trim to fit.
I used a combination of (generic) dynamat and the (base) stuff from vettenuts on top. Used a heat gun to mold the dynamat. Worked out very well, as in, very happy. Much quieter and cooler interior now.

I'm doing my carpet right now. Should be done on Sunday.
I have used next to zero glue spray in the back and the passenger side so far. Just have to lay down some Reflectix (Lowes or Home Depot) then the drivers side carpet. It comes with padding and is pre-molded.
Couldn't belive how dirty the carpet was until I took it out and compared to the new carpet. My floor looked great so I didn't see any reason to paint it.
Take your time, measure 3-4 times and cut short what you think you need then trim to fit once it is in place.
