Vette is a new project has not run in 15 years, Replaced key switch on column have 12 volts to dash but nothing to starter.
I can get the engine to turn over if I jump 12 volts to S. terminal.
Might be the ignition switch or neutral safety switch any suggestions
got to step through the system, do you have 12v to the ign sw? Check the harmonica connector on the steering column, then the N Sw. A test light is a big help.
What year? Do you have a schematic?

Get the schematic and start tracing the circuit. Somewhere along the line you will find where it goes dead.
got 12 volts at the distributor. Car will fire when I turn key to on position and use remote starter switch from 12 volt to solinoid. Could it be the ignition switch or neutral lockout .

On mine, the shifter isn't adjusted properly and doesn't go fully into Park. I sometimes have to hold the shifter all the way forward for the starter to spin. If that's not your issue, it could be in the neutral switch or the starter switch on the lower column.
I have 12 volts to starter , car is an automatic. Also have 12 volts to coil in distributor cap when key is turned to Acces. but starter will not crank when key is turned to start. I also tried holding the key in the start position and slowly moving the shifter from park to neutral nothing happened. I purchased a new ignition switch maybe thats the problem. I can get the engine to fire if I hook a remote starter button between purple solinoid wire and positive on starter and turn key to on position.
Should there be hot to ignition switch at all times. What color wire should I check. for 12 volts.
I would start by taking off the shifter plate and putting a test light on the purple wires going to the neutral safety switch. One of those wires comes from the ignition switch and the other goes to the solenoid. If the ignition switch and the wiring to the neutral saftety switch is good, then you should have power to one of those wires. If you jumper them and the car starts when you turn the ignition switch then the neutral safety switch is bad.
To get the shifter plate off, you need to take off the gear shift ****. First you must unscrew the silver push button, then you can unscrew the gear shift ****.
sounds like it may be the neutral safety switch. when you get the console open unplug the NSW (purple wires on the harness side) and put a jumper on there and give it a try. When I went to start mine up the other day I found my NSW dead, got one on order.

Purple and white wire is grounded Purple wire has no power. Does this indicate ignition switch issue. To remove Shifter **** do I just unscrew push botton it seems difficult to turn?
When I turned ignition key I got 12 volts to a purple wire but nothing to solinoid. Have not jumped both purples tgether yet. When I hook them together and turn the key to on and nothing happens is that the neutral switch.
