1982 ecm question
Hi, if I buy a rebiult ecm does it have to be programed? If i buy a used ecm does it have to be programed as well? I bought a light flood for my son with 19000 miles. some water got in the ecm. The whole car is coming out showroom so far.thanks Anthony

The answer to both questions is no. The operational programing is in the PROM, the removable memory chip in the ECM, probably not damaged in a "light" flood.
I am running an ECM that was under fresh water, just dried it out and cleaned the contacts at the plug. I may be lucky, but it is working fine.

A lot of guys are using the ECM from an 85, because it can be re-programmed for more performance.
