I searched and read through several posts which are similar to our problem, but they were not the same issue (imaging that ) so I thought I would start a new post on it. I think I have diagnosed this correctly, but was hoping for confirmation before buying any parts.
Issue: Low beams work fine - all four headlights are new and I installed a new headlight switch - new bulbs behind dash - wire routing from under dash to headlights is correct. When I pull the blinker stalk to turn on the high beams all four head lights go out and I have no high beam indicator on the dash.
Looking at the wiring diagrams (see below) I have and from what I see about the system operation it appears to be the dimmer switch which is mounted on the lower end of the steering column. I'm "guessing" that a short in this switch could kill power to all four lights as well as the high beam indicator. Given what you see below am I on the right track with this?
a short? or an open circuit to high beam? defective switch? have you checked for 12 volts coming out of dimmer switch for high beams? If no 12 volts, then defective switch.
Hey Adam, I'm with Ronnie on this one. That schematic looks pretty straight forward for your lighting circuit. I would definitely see if you have 12 volts on that light green line coming out of your dimmer switch. If not, then I would think you're right in your thinking. Wish I was there to give you a hand today.......looking out at that white crap that arrived last night!!!!! Good luck buddy, I'm sure you'll have it sorted in no time.
Thanks guys! I thought that seemed logical. Will do some double checking before I order a new dimmer switch.
Hey Brian! Wish you were here today too... replacing brake pads and rotors on my wife's car today. T-shirt weather - even have a little bead of sweat on my forehead
