The undercarriage has been sprayed with lizard skin. Now I would like to coat it with paint directly on top of the lizard skin. The manufacturer says it is perfectly fine as long as the paint has I believe 15% "flex" to it, since lizard skin is at 15%.
I have a hard time finding the color that I want (semi-gloss gray or if I really cant find it, Ill settle for satin black) for the floor boards and even a harder time finding out whether the paint I am looking at has that 15% flex.
I found a color similar to what I need and it is the VHT engine paint....but does engine paint has the required flex?????
No idea if the flex is even required, but I can't imagine it being a problem on the underside of the car
According to lizard skin, most automotive paints already have a flex property in it so no additional flex additive required.
Unfortunately no technical or MSD sheet states the flex properties, even the manufacturer doesnt have this information readily available. I guess bumper paint would work, but what about the likes of engine enamel? Or chassis paints?
Which leads me to a related question....if not powder coating, what type of paint would you use on springs so that the paint doesn't crack under the constant spring compression/movement?
