Default Engine VIN numbers/codes

The car i bought had a different engine in than original.

Where would i find the code or vin on the engine (not the chassis)..
i would like to know more info on the engine as stock

Stamped on a pad on the block in front of the passenger head, by the waterpump.

What are you wanting to know? What engine might be in it now? Or which engine it may have had when it left the factory?

You've previously posted that you think you have a modified L-82.

Yeah i was told it was a lightly modified '76 L-82, but i wanted to make sure what it was stock.
I will post the number when i get it off the engine

What model year? Beginning with the 73 models, the VIN has a code for the original engine. Jot down your VIN and check the Black Book for the code.
