I decided to try and tackle the restoration of my 78 silver anniversary emblems. They were worn out and discolored from the years and new ones are way expensive. Along my Corvette journey I have learned that restoring anything old is better than new so away i went with the emblems. I know the colors are probably not spot on but I dont care, they look great and they cost me about 6 dollars in model paint and a tiny paint brush! Here are a couple pics. What do you guys think?
Before. All worn out looking.
After. All painted and beautiful.
Lol, Horsecop. Its called wet paper towel. Trust me, i have no steady hand!
Bill,
Im pretty sure the paint on my vette would have a trying time getting worse than it is! But no, no damage. The one in the pic is from the fuel door. It has two bolts on the back and it comes straight off. The front one i havent even looked at yet but im sure it too is bolted on.
roger that.mine is pitted, unlike yours, and may not come out as well as yours did.here is a shot of my before,no after yet,and what a new one looks like.
Im not sure what you can do for the pitting. If its unsalvegable then you may be forced to get a new one. What year is that from? If you do end up painting it my advice is paint the entire thing red first except the flag. Everything, you dont even need to be careful. Then take a q tip with some alcohol and clean the paint off the convex parts of the emblem. This is how i did the large areas of one color on my emblem.
