I need a new oil pan for my '72 (with power steering.) I would like a five quart model but can't seem to find a good match - only the four quart versions so far. The standard 5 qt models are to tall in the front and rub the power steering rack. Does anyone have a suggestion or know who makes such a product?
My original was damaged during an engine mount replacement project - my special home made jig slipped. Anyway, any suggestions welcome.
Have you looked into the Moroso pans as lots here are using them. When I built my engine in'01 a local speed shop wasn't refunding about $200 worth of wrong parts that they ordered for me. They admitted their mistake but I after 8 weeks they still hadn't transferred the $ back into my acct. I walked into the shop picked up an aluminum sb pan, told them they'd get it back once I got my $. A few days later $ transferred into my acct brought the unused pan back but the employee told me to keep it as the owner had just screwed him and a few of his friends over. It was my bank that got my funds back. So I will head out to the storage shed over the wknd and see what brand that al. pan is as it is a perfect fit for my '72 with ps. as if still made could be an acceptable option for you. I am sure that you'll find a suitable Moroso as well.
TimAT, I'm looking at the Milodan model 30700, it is a 5 qt pan for a 350 and the specs say it is a match for my corvette - no mention of steering issues. However in talking to the Summit sales guy, he thinks it won't fit because of the thin/thick front gasket issue. I don't see that as a problem. I would like to know if anyone out there has installed the Milodan pan and how it fits. This model pan doesn't have the batwing form, just a deeper sump area in the rear. The front of the pan looks to be shallow enough to miss the steering rack - that is the issue.
I have a Milodon 31503 on the engine in my '72. Fits no problem. I can't remember if it used a thick or thin front gasket, but either way, it doesn't affect the fit.
Specifically designed for applications that desire improvements over stock yet do not want a high cost racing pan. While appearing stock on the outside, it contains sufficient horizontal baffling to 100% control 5 quarts of oil. Internal mounted windage tray provides increased power yet requires no block mounting to install. Fits all Chevy chassis except 62-67 Nova. A complete low cost performance package. High strength magnetic drain plug included.
Pan fits a 3.750" 400 stroke crank with steel stock rods. Eagle's 400 rods may need slight fitting
Pan Capacity is 5 Quarts Plus Filter - 7 1/2" Sump Depth
A pic of it on my car:
