Default 454 driveshaft question

Im putting a 454 / t400 4" tailshaft in my 75. Im trying to figure out the correct driveshaft for this. Im not sure the length of the original transmission so I was wondering if anyone has done this combo and which driveshaft they used.
thanks

I think we need more info. If I'm guessing correctly, you've installed a 454 engine in a 75' with the 400 transmission and you're wondering what length driveshaft was used, like for example, in a 74' with the 454, right?

That was my hunch. Since the TH400 was available for '75, I would think the stock drive shaft would work. Since the big block and the TH400 were available for '74, that drive shaft should also work.

But what tailhousing length was on the orig t400?
I dont know what my t400 came out of.
Are all driveshafts on C3's the same? 4sp, t350, t400. My car didnt come with any drivetrain so Im starting from scratch.
thanks

There's a code on the tag which will identify the TH400.

Easy Mike's answer will at least tell you what the tranny came out of, but now you'll have to do one of two things. Either replace the tailhousing for a Corvette specific tailhousing or have a custom driveshaft made for the car.

Don't know which option you want to go with, because each presents it's own set of problems. There is some slight room for error, because the yoke does have some movement within the tailhousing itself. You just want to make sure you're within the parameters specified.

I found this on line:

Had to edit, because I looked at 'Diagram B' and wow, it is very specific and asks a lot of "yes" or "no" questions about your transmission:

I believe that the slip yoke for the t400 trannie is configured for a 3130U joint. The slip yokes for the original Muncies were configured for 3110U joints. So the original drive shafts were configured at both ends for 3110 U joints. What this means is that if you use your original drive shaft with a T400, you might have to buy a specialty U joint that will mate the 3130 trannie yoke to the 3110 driveshaft Yoke. They're not expensive or hard to get, you just have to know to ask for them.
...........

Did you know a 3130 to 3110 U joint was standard on the Edsel?

.............
I have a TKO 600 in my 68 and 70. The 70 has a 3150 U joint on the trannie slip yoke and a 3150 U jiont on the differential pinion yoke.
