Default temp sender question 69 427

The temp gauge on my 69 just started to read really high.

With an infrared gun the lower water hose is at around 150 upper at 185, so radiator is fine.

Fan clutch sounds light a freight train and is pulling plenty of air.

Gauge comes up to temp slowly, but when the motor is really hot, starts to read at like 220 now.

Should I just buy a new temp sending unit? Is there shielding off some type to block heat at sender?

Gary

Hi Gary , yes it's time for a change, make sure that you get the correct one, if you get it NAPA or Advanced , they aren't correct, get from zips, ecklers,Willcox etc they are correct, if you can, try to get NOS , they are the most correct.

'Lectric Limited has properly calibrated send units. Check the connection at the send unit first. I've had them wiggle loose and cause errant readings.

The Lectric Limited sending unit was the only way I could get a proper reading. I installed a new Delco unit after my engine rebuild and even it read too high. Its pretty bad when the General's own replacement parts aren't right.
