Default part under dash by speedometer/ tach

replaced wiper switch on my 1981 all ok but there is one piece i removed not sure where it goes part # 25007218 small black plastic piece looks like it has two small lights in it please help. thanks first vette

Same part number and the description sounds the same: "The yellow part is an AC part with the following part number 25007278. It has green, red and black wires coming out of it. The black piece has 2 small lights in it with the following part number 25007218. The connector that the yellow piece connects to has 3 wires: Brown, black/white and pink/black. It leads back into the same harness as all the wires from the speedo/tach connector go in."

Turned out to be a speed sensor to relay the signal to the computer.

Just a shot in the dark.

I'm doing the same thing on my 1981. Does this "speed sensor" need to be connected if the computer system is no longer operative. It's kind of a pain in the @ss to get the cluster back in while its connected.
