Default Exhaust difference between auto and manual

I'm considering a chambered exhaust for my 71 4 speed. I have the opportunity to purchase a used system from an automatic. The usuals have a different part number or ask you to specify auto or manual when purchasing. What is the difference?
Thanks
Mike

RH pipe on AT cars curves out a little to clear the tranny.

Thanks Mike,
So, it might work? I don't mind the little curve in the right pipe as long as the x member holes are the same.

In theory. Who makes the aftermarket kit? You might want to contact them and ask.

I thought it had to do with the position of the transmission cross member. I thought the automatic is further back and at the cross member there is a clamp bracket for the exhaust.

I took a dual exhaust off my 4speed Vette and installed it on a friend's auto Vette.
Had to ding a couple spots to clear the trans pan(350 turbo). Not sure if it would have cleared a 400 pan.
But I'd think an auto setup would go onto a 4 speed no problem.

the hanger at the trans is a little different but not expensive.

He would still use his existing 4speed bracket at the transmission.
The bracket is a transmission difference thing, not a pipes thing.
The 4speed bracket grips the pipes right before they pass through the crossmember so the pipes should be at least close at that point.

If I recall from my research the driver side pipe had an angle instead of the S curve and the pass side had a more severe angle before the crossmember for auto pipes. I THINK it was the pass side I had to ding to clear the 350 trans pan.

There is a difference. one side on the long mid section pipe which connects to the muffler that pipe does angle differently at the cross member. I just went through this process of trying to put original GM 4 sp mid section pipes on my 71 454 auto. It didn't work. So off they came and I had to put the repop auto mid section pipes back on and welded a pair of GM off road mufflers to the pipes.
I also had a pair of repro 4 spd one piece system and I tried to mate to my Auto front pipes and they did not fit either. So These mint 4 sp muffler system is for sale if interersted. I think they came from corvette Central or could be Allens and they are carbon steel 2 1/2 inch system
Thanks, Grant

You're correct, the front auto pipe won't connect to the rear 4speed pipe.
But an entire system should work.
