Default Valve cover question??

Cleaning out my shop to make some room to finish my 71 build. Found these valve covers, but the part# stamped on the back are:

14025553 LH MAG
14025554 RH MAG

474208 RH ALUM
474207 LH ALUM

Since it's not one or the other can I assume they're re-pops? Any info appreciated.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say that they're "not one or the other", as they are aluminum, and I think they are GM covers.

Those covers were used on 69 350/350's, 70-72 LT-1's and 73-77 L-82's, as well as 69-72 Z-28's. The same covers were also used on 78-80 L-82's, but were painted black with the top of the fins left natural, when used on those years.

In an effort to save weight, for 1981 Chevrolet started casting those covers in magnesium. The magnesium covers were painted black with the top edges of the fins painted light gray. All 81-82 Corvettes used the magnesium covers.

Since the same molds were used to cast both the aluminum and magnesium versions of the finned covers, the part number for both materials was cast into the underside of the covers. All finned valve covers sold by Chevrolet after 81, have both part numbers cast in them.
