I'm still new to this forum, and a first time corvette owner. I've owned a lot of cars over the years, but never had this problem. My trans will shift to 3rd gear at 20mph. In traffic, i get no downshift. Seems i'm lugging the engine all the time. Am i looking at a vacuum problem, or something else. Thanks for your input, mike
agree with diehrd, sounds like the kick down cable is out of adjustment. very easy fix.
true, but other than breakage, I've never seen a cable go out of adjustment. granted, I suppose it could on its last legs - so stretched and ready to break could be the issue. Also, it wouldn't affect the early shifting issue - it simply controls downshift at WOT.
My vote is the vacuum modulator is toast.... although that's not even certain. Turbo 350s are entertaining in their ways of breaking. it could be the governor is sticking as well (I used to have a turbo 350 in a v8 s-10 blazer - it was never a happy transmission - no, it couldn't have been the 4wd burnouts - so these steps were always my first before I pulled the tranny)
