What brand of rally wheel paint have you used that resulted in your satisfaction? How many shaker cans did it take to do four wheels and what type primer did you use?
I used argent silver from eastwood. I bought four cans and have a little left over and painted 5 wheels.
As for the primer I used? I think I just used duplicolor primer.
They turned out nice.
I like the Duplicolor Argent. Be aware though that there are "green" tinted Argent afficionados here, "red" tinted Argent, "silver" Argent fans all of whom believe their wheels came from GM with some tint or another. They may all have valid points since am certain there were variences in supplier colors, and "shading" from paint color changeovers as the different parts got painted.
Coverage depends on your spray technique, and whether you are going to fully coat both sides of the rim, or follow factory protocol and paint only the outside faces, allowing some overspray to penetrate and partially cover the gray, or black, or green (as the case might be on any given day) primer on the backside. I paint both sides and use about one can per rim.
That is what I decided to do instead of shaker can application. The place I took my wheels yesterday has a silver that is close to the original wheel shade. Mine is not a show car so the powder coat with the available color will do me just fine.
Same here. I used 1 can for all 4 wheels and have a little left over. I got excellent coverage! No nicks or scratches at all even after having tires put on.
I had the wheels sand blasted and black epoxy primered, and black spray-on bedliner on the back side to keep from rusting.
