Default gear ratio

Hi all. Antone know where I can find a Formula to figure out what rear gears I'm running? Thanks in advance.

Hi, the simple way to calculate is to put the rear wheels in the air turn the rear wheel one turn and count how many turns make the main driveshaft.
you will get your ratio.

No. Turn the wheel one complete revolution and count the driveshaft revolutions. The driveshaft revolution count is your ratio i.e. 3.08:1, 3.36:1, 3.55:1 etc.

FYI in 78 there were two std rear axles for automatics:

L48= 3.08 or high altitude 3.55

L82= 3.55

Probably one of these unless someone went in.

Thanks. I have not put her up in the air yet. Just seems like 2700 at 60mph is high.
