Default temp sender. Is there a difference?

I have a simple question. I bought an engine out of a 64 Corvette. Using the temp sending unit already on the motor, (which looks brand new) I can't get my temperature above about 140 degrees. (as measured by my factory 68 up temperature gauge and an IR gun at the radiator inlet) I'm trying to set up my electric fan. The question is, is there a difference in a temp sending unit for a 64 vs a 68 Corvette? Is the gauge itself "set up" differently? I notice they list 2 different part numbers on several of the vendors sights. Any idea?

Believe the 57-67 uses a thumb tack like terminal and it changed in 68-71 to a rod like terminal. You will have to get the one specifically for your gauge.

A lot of the stock replacement senders have different resistances which result in incorrect readings. What you really have to do is calibrate the resistance on the back of the gauge to the sender's resistance.

I found the one from Lectric Limited to be pretty accurate for my 71. http://www.lectriclimited.com/
