Default Window wobble

1979. When the doors are open I can move the windows back and forth a fair amount. The driver's side more so than the the passenger, but they both are a fairly floppy.

I pulled the driver's side door panel and the guides are adjusted as far as they will go toward the glass. So is there something else to look at?

Power windows, if it matters.

The rollers loosen with age. It can be a major PITA to tighten these. Can you live with what you've got?

I have the same problem, too. Planning on replacing all the rollers, is there a way to tighten what's there?

i also replaced the felt around the window, tightened the door panel down more and adjusted the window to the max with no avail

Replacing the rollers is the solution to floppy windows. You'll be amazed how bad they are when you get them out. There really isn't anything in there to tighten unless the nuts attaching the rollers have come loose.

Based only on your description of being able to slide the window back and forth, I'd say that your track roller needs to be repl;aced but I'd go with the kit and do all of them. The job is a PIA and I'd only want to do it once. The alternative is to take the window out before ordering parts and see which ones are bad.

Possible certainly, but I'd do the rollers first. Much less expensive.

http://willcoxcorvette.com/product_i...oducts_id=6633 Here are the rollers you need.

The issue on the door glass... The door window pads only hit the door glass when it is almost to the top so they really don't have a bearing on how tight the glass is. The rollers on the regulator do however and when they are loose the glass will flop.

However, it is always my advice to 1) Remove the regulator and see what is defective before buying parts, or 2) Buy the rebuild kit too.. and make sure all the rollers are in good condition. http://willcoxcorvette.com/product_i...ducts_id=17008

Personally I don't like buying things I don't need.. so it's always best to take it apart and then order. One other thing that will/can cause you grief is the front roller stud on the glass. Make sure it's tight as well.

IMHO,

Willcox

Gear is your problem.. regulator or motor but I fell sure if you have to pull them up you have a gearing issue.

So does the rebuild kit have everything except the gear on the regulator?

I know it is cheaper to buy the kit but I think it is cheaper to only do it once.

I like to have all the parts there when I take something apart so I can finish it. Otherwise i end up with a week of downtime on the car

Check with the vendor selling the kit and determine what's in the kit.

Another thing that can allow the window to flop around, is the pivot. The pivot wears out, and allows the window to move quite a bit inboard/outboard. I removed the regulator, and used a vise, large socket, and a bfh, and tightened it back up. That worked for a few month, and then it loosened back up. I've got two replacement regulators waiting to go into the car.

that is what I was doing as the vendor had just replied in this thread.

I spoke with Willcox and have ordered the rebuild kit and bought the window clamps (anti rattle) from another vendor as they don't have them

As a follow up to this I would like to give some props to Willcox.
I had found them through this forum because I was also looking for a complete weatherstrip kit.

I went to the Eckler site and went all the way to the final checkout when I noticed their shipping charge was $30!!!!!!!

BS. I closed the page and did a web search which led me here and subsequently to Willcox.

Not only was my shipping $18, but they also gave me 10% off for being on this forum.

I would have paid more just to not be taken advantage of by a company that thought they could slip something by me at checkout.
