Default Fuel filter leaks like a sieve - Zip

Has anyone else had leaking issues with the '68-'69 external fuel filters from Zip? I'm sure many of the other parts suppliers use the same manufacturer. The threaded connection on top of the filter (filter to carb fuel line connection) leaks past both the threads and up the nut. I have removed an installed the whole "pump to carb" set up 4 times and reinstalled to no avail. I am also using a new stainless "filter to carb" line from Zip as well.

I contacted Zip and they are drop shipping another filter, but had mentioned that others have called and complained as well (as recently as Thursday). I'm curious if others here have had issues and if the new filter solved the problem.

Yes-exactly the same problem. I cannot remember if I ordered from Zip, but this product is a safety hazard. By the time you add on shipping charges, your wallet is $50 thinner and your watch will tell how much time was wasted. Went with a filter from Autozone with the two ports on tops. No problems.

That's a shame we are at the mercy of whoever is reproducing these things. Any idea who makes them? (I am assuming the stencils, including the "AC" are licensed)

I don't use the stock filter on my 68.

one of reasons i don't use stainless fuel or brake lines , if the flare is not perfect it will leak. put all new stainless brake lines on a car a while back and had to reflare almost all the ends to stop the leaks.i had too much money in them to toss them in the trash and go with steel lines...........but lesson learned.

Zip is nicely dropping another one in the mail for free. Didn't even ask for the old filter back. I couldn't find a similar style filter at Autozone, do you have a link?

There are no other markings on the filter, and I didn't ask Zip. If others have complained, I really don't have much faith in the new filter working either. I will hook up all the lines and perform a pneumatic pressure test on the new filter before I install it this next time.

Mine did the same.
Loose the stainless steel line, it's almost impossible to make those work.

The stainless lines are often a pain to get to fit and seal.

The TBW steel lines lasted over 40 years, much of it in daily use. As much use as these cars see now, are stainless lines really necessary?

Zip is also sending a new TBW filter-to-carb line as well.

I had problems with my replacement oem filter and the new fuel pump to carb lines. First off, the lines weren't bent totally correct - I had to do some massaging - bending them a bit this way and that with my hands. Then, I connected them all together except for the line going into the carb which I did last. That way, I could help move the lines for that fitting to line up. I also want to say that I had to snug them up quite tight. Zip has always dealt with the few issues I've had with parts. BTW IIRC, I bought my filter from ZIP and the lines elsewhere but the're all probably made from the same supplier.

Received my TBW fuel lines from Zip, and even more disappointment - filter-to-carb fuel line is off by 1 1/2". That's too much for an 8" line, in my opinion. I had to "massage" my stainless line to align properly, but these bends are completely off to do by hand. And, this was the last set of TBW fuel lines Zip had in stock. Maybe time to try somewhere else.

My local carb Guy has flared brass washers that fit between the steel line and the filter. Worked like a charm.

I bought a complete fuel pump to carb line set from one of the bigger vendors. Fit was terrible, and looked even worse. Junked the whole thing, bought $30 worth of AN fittings and steel brake tube. Game over.

Hi Tom,

We remedied this issue last year. Zip sent another set of TBW lines and everything did eventually line up and seal nice and tightly.

And Zip continues to be my #1 source of parts. Great service, quick shipping, and a user-friendly site. Thanks for your concern.
