My 73 was hit on right side, when it was repaired a later model a/c system was installed, also the plunem flapper assembly was not reinstalled. Right now i've got some time spent in cleaning up the outer & inner boxes, incorrect heater core and evap., bought a used inner box $75.00, seal kit $45.00. Looks like i'll spend as much on parts restoring a/c as purchasing vintage air. If i go with vintage system can i elimanate that plenum valve set up and also the vent in lower right kick panel area?
I installed a VA system in my 76 after the summer was over but living in North West Florida, the temps and humidity can stay hot through most of the fall. have no doubt the system will keep me cool in the summer. I thought the installation was easier than expected and only had about 25 hours in it. i did have an A/C guy charge it after finished. The only vents It uses are the main passenger vent, two center vents and drivers vent as well as the vent under the steering wheel. I did add an electric fan that mounts in front of the condenser and it is suppose to really jelp when sitting at stop lights etc. Good luck with your decision and let us know how everything goes,

The VA system is pretty sweet. The Gen IV units are all electronic so they eliminate all the cables and vacuum hoses and other nonsense associated with the old systems. VA tech support is very helpful and responsive. Good Luck with the project. You'll love the results.
FWIW: the passenger's side kick panel vent is the only source of fresh air on a factory AC car.
And there is no fresh air on the VA system at all, they have you shut off the passenger side vent and there is no driver side on a factory air car. Still the system seems to work well.
I put a VA system in my 74 and love it. Puts out 35 degree air in 80 to 90 heat!!!! Hardest part of the install is getting the duct work behind drivers side dash.
