So i got a new engine put in the vette about 6 months ago and it has been running mostly well, except for poor gas mileage..(to be expected). One other thing it does is when i brake suddenly or sharply turn the wheel it starts to putter like it is about to shut off. I just assumed it was running a little rich and a little too much gas got pumped into the engine. But a few days ago it started running not so good. I was driving down the highway with no issues, i get off the highway and start driving in the city. Everytime i let off the gas or came to a stop it started running really weak and puttering until i pressed the gas pedal. From a complete stop i would press the gas and it would do nothing for just a second and then just take off abruptly. This happened again today and it sounded like it was about to die numerous times when i let off the gas to slow down to a stop. I parked it in the driveway and went to move it into the garage for the night and now it wont crank. Well it cranks with a little gas pedal but as soon as i let off the pedal it dies. I tried for 15 mins to get it running and it just starts and putters out. I am super frustrated and not sure what do. PLEASE HELP!!
It really sounds to me like not enough fuel , check your main fuel line to see if its kinked , fuel filter for clogs. Has your carb been set up? Timing? Plugs, wires.
Good luck and let us know your results.
Does it smell like gas (float sunk)? Is your fuel line close to the block (vapor lock)? New carb? old carb? Any gas under the car (fuel pump)? Just a couple ideas.
This could really be a lot of different things. The fact that it will start with help would make me look at fuel delivery first rather than ignition, because you're getting spark at least for a time. I'd check your fuel inlet hose from the frame to the pump, then move to the fuel filter. If those check out you might have dirt in the carb's needle and seat or your float might have checked out. Really, some more information about what your carb and fuel pump set up is would help. Are they stock or were they swapped out with the engine and replaced with a Holley / Edelbrock / etc.?
