Default camshaft

Hi i am in the process of buiding a 383 stroker motor just not sure if to go roller or flat tappet camshaft. I am using edelbrock performer heads manifold ,just was going to go flat tappet but was advised to go roller,is only for street use ,i also have been told go for a crate motor but cannot due to laws here in australia.
Hope someone can give me some advice

I have a 383 in mine. I put the Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, roller cam and intake. I like the roller , no break in and you will get more performance from it. Plus it was part of the Edelbrock package. Don't have it running yet but can't wait to drive it.

A flat tappet is fine in most street applications, they run good, dependable, make good power...all depends on budget really....

some of the packages that 540 mentioned cant be beat, buy heads, cam, intake all packaged together and have a great runner...

For me it boils down to cost. The hydraulic roller is the better choice if it's afforable for you. The flat tappet hydraulics are a good choice for us with lower budget builds.

thanks heaps when do u think your will be going interested what its like i dont want to lumpy just a nice lope looking for low down power also.
Here in australia we have r/h drive so if i want to keep it left it has to be left standard so cant have to radical, have to be that i could have come that way .

What state do you live in?

I've never heard of any laws about crate motors. Here in WA everythings cool.

south australia its not just crate motors cant modify at all thats why i want to do my motor and have to keep it looking as stock as i can, i had to even take chrome rocker covers off to get registration.Any way i want to do it myself .Not all about money i bought it to play with and rebuid slowly as a hobby, every winter i find something to do ,this one is motor, last i re did the interior.Every other state than south australia can do what u like to them, there was a thing on TV recently because someone didnt have original paint but they ended up changing law after the show so no paint can be changed.CRAZY SOUTH AUSTRALIA.

I thought you meant WA, as in Washington state. Been a few years since I've been there(both times in Victoria), but had a great time and found the people to be excellent hosts.

I was not asking because of cost ,i no roller is best but there is a thing like over doing a it other wise u could say why stop at manifold and carby why not turbo or supercharge ,which i would love to do also but as i say it cant be done here and keep it left hand drive,if i convert to right hand drive i can do what i like ,or shift some where else in Australia.

Just thinking of a edelbock performer rpm cam .Just when talking to other i have been advised go roller cam ,all i want is to boost HP a bit ,stroker maybe or leave as is edelbrook heads manifold etc ,rather do all the same as they have done the testing to make it compatible, just roller or flat cam
